Lindsey Vonn is training for a return to competitive alpine skiing after getting a new knee earlier this year. At 40, she says she is finally feeling healthy, five years after retiring.
Vonn shared her excitement on Instagram, revealing that she’s heading to Colorado to see if her U.S. Ski Team uniform still fits. Her comeback announcement marks 20 years since she won her first World Cup race, and with the 2024-25 Alpine World Cup season underway, Vonn is ready to challenge herself once again. She expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Getting back to skiing without pain has been an incredible journey,” and is looking forward to rejoining the Stifel U.S. Ski Team.
Vonn, one of the most decorated skiers in history, still holds several records, including the most World Cup victories by any skier in the downhill and super-G disciplines.
Despite facing numerous injuries, including nine surgeries, she remains an inspiration for her determination and skill. After undergoing knee replacement surgery for severe degeneration, Vonn feels like a “whole new chapter” is beginning. Her potential return has sparked excitement within the skiing community, with fellow skier Sofia Goggia expressing her admiration and eagerness to race alongside Vonn.
Vonn’s comeback would further solidify her reputation for defying limits, as she continues to inspire both fans and fellow athletes.
