The remains of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, have arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, marking the beginning of arrangements for his state burial in Abuja.
In recognition of his service, President Bola Tinubu has mandated a state burial for General Lagbaja, who died on November 5 after a period of illness.
Upon arrival, a guard of honor composed of senior military officers was present to pay tribute to the deceased COAS.
Appointed by President Tinubu on June 19, 2023, General Lagbaja’s tenure, though brief, was noted for its significant impact on the Nigerian Army.
In the interim, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede has been designated as the acting Chief of Army Staff.
The official commemorative events in Abuja will commence with a service of songs at the Army Headquarters’ Garrison Parade Ground on Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm, followed by a funeral service at the National Christian Centre on Friday from 10 am to 12:45 pm, concluding with interment at the National Military Cemetery between 2 pm and 6 pm.
