Kwara State intensifies efforts to curb loitering during school hours, picking up 20 students to set an example.
Twenty students were apprehended on the streets during school hours in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, as reported by the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development on Thursday.
The ministry’s Commissioner, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, addressed the parents and students, urging them to refrain from loitering during school hours to fulfill their parents’ aspirations.
She encouraged parents to actively engage with their children’s education to ensure they remain on the right path.
The commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to providing inclusive and quality education to ensure the success of all underprivileged children in the state.
In a related matter, the state government expressed concern over the recent disruptive behavior of students from Government Day Secondary School and Government High School in Adeta, Ilorin.
The principals of both institutions reported a long-standing conflict between the schools that has persisted for nearly a decade.
During an unannounced visit to investigate the unrest, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu expressed her disappointment with both the students’ conduct and the school’s management for failing to promptly inform the Ministry.
She assured the schools of government support and urged students to adopt a more positive attitude and concentrate on their studies for a successful future, while also commending the teachers for their dedication and encouraging adherence to government policies aimed at improving the education sector.
The commissioner emphasized that the state government is focusing on education as a means to enhance the potential of learners, viewing it as essential for the prosperity of both the state and the nation.
She urged students from Government High School, Adeta, and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, Ilorin, to reflect the government’s commitment by maintaining conduct that upholds the state’s reputation, encouraging them to be a source of pride for their families and the community.
The principals of both schools, Hajia Fausat Ishola and Mallam Waheed Issa, commended the current administration for its efforts to improve the education sector and requested assistance in rebuilding the perimeter fencing to deter student loitering.
Meanwhile, the students expressed regret for their previous misconduct and assured that such behavior would not happen again.
