The National Economic Council (NEC) has issued another one-week deadline for three states—Kwara, Adamawa, Kebbi—and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to submit their reports on the creation of State Police.
This follows NEC’s previous resolution to gather comprehensive reports from all 36 states and the FCT, with the goal of establishing State Police.
The NEC warned that any decisions made on the matter will apply to states that do not submit their reports before the one-week deadline.
President Bola Tinubu had on February 15, 2024, endorsed the creation of State Police, as recommended by state governors, in an effort to address the country’s growing security challenges.
States have been asked to submit their reports to the Council for review and further action.
