The Indian community in Nigeria rolled out a grand reception for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, celebrating his visit aimed at bolstering diplomatic, economic, and cultural collaborations between the two nations. Modi’s trip is historic, being the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years.
During his visit, the Prime Minister engaged with the Indian diaspora, including the Marathi community, who expressed pride over Marathi recently being recognized as a Classical Language. Sharing his sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), Modi noted, “In Nigeria, the Marathi community expressed joy at Marathi being conferred the status of a Classical Language. It is truly commendable how they remain connected to their culture and roots.”
The Indian community’s vibrant welcome reflected their excitement and appreciation for the strengthening ties between India and Nigeria. Modi remarked, “Heartwarming to see the Indian community in Nigeria extending such a warm and vibrant welcome.”
Modi’s visit is expected to pave the way for enhanced partnerships in trade, technology, education, and cultural exchange, further cementing the bond between the two countries.
