The Federal Government suspends 13 students from FGC Enugu following allegations of bullying. Learn more about the incident and its consequences.
The Federal Government has imposed a six-week suspension on 13 students from the Federal Government College (FGC) in Enugu State due to their participation in bullying, as evidenced by a viral video.
This decision was communicated in Abuja on Wednesday by Folashade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations for the Ministry of Education.
The suspension was mandated by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, following a report of a bullying incident involving the gang assault of a day student on November 7.
The incident gained attention after a disturbing video circulated on social media. In response, the Federal Ministry of Education formed a disciplinary committee to investigate the situation, leading to the suspension of the involved students while awaiting the committee’s findings.
The minister also instructed the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) to work with security agencies for a comprehensive investigation, including any potential links to external groups.
Furthermore, immediate actions have been taken to bolster security at the college by involving law enforcement and reviewing safety measures.
Counseling and rehabilitation support will also be provided to facilitate the students’ reintegration into a positive school environment.
