Edo’s Governor Okpebholo freezes all state-owned bank accounts. Discover the implications of this financial decision on state operations and development projects.
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has mandated the immediate freezing of all state-owned accounts in commercial banks until further notice.
According to a statement from Fred Itua, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, this directive requires commercial banks and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to comply without delay.
The Governor emphasized that any violation of this order by MDAs or civil servants will result in severe penalties.
He confirmed that all accounts in commercial banks are frozen, and no funds may be withdrawn until further instructions are issued.
Additionally, Governor Okpebholo has reverted the Ministry of Roads and Bridges back to its original designation as the Ministry of Works, criticizing the previous administration for failing to construct any roads or bridges.
He expressed that maintaining the name was illogical given the lack of infrastructure development.
The Governor instructed relevant government agencies to implement this name change promptly and indicated that further evaluations of the previous administration’s actions will lead to additional decisions aimed at benefiting the state.
