Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has been released from detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Adebutu was allegedly detained on Monday in connection with security breaches that occurred during the local government elections in Ogun State on Saturday.
The security breaches reportedly took place in Iperu, Ikenne local government area of the state.
Adebutu’s detention was related to his alleged involvement in the election-related disturbances. He has now regained his freedom after being held by the DSS for the investigation.
Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the former PDP gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State, was released from DSS detention at around 7 am on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
Adebutu was detained following allegations related to the November 16 local government elections in Ogun State, which he contends were unfair. In his statement, Adebutu asserted that the accusations against him were baseless and aimed at silencing his opposition voice.
He emphasized his stance on the need for financial autonomy for local governments, citing it as crucial for development and non-partisan to the national interest.
Adebutu expressed appreciation for the professionalism and fairness shown by the DSS during his detention and investigation.
Hon. Ladi Adebutu acknowledged the Ogun State High Court’s favorable judgment on November 15, 2024, in suit AB/784/2024, which allowed the PDP to participate in the local government elections.
The court ruling was crucial in preventing the exclusion of the PDP from the elections, which Adebutu had contested. Adebutu expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and even those critical of him, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts for good governance.
