Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will appear in court for a pretrial hearing, seeking another chance to be released from jail on bail. Combs has been incarcerated for over two months after facing serious charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation for prostitution.
He was denied bail in September when the indictment was unsealed and again in November, as the judge ruled that Combs posed a flight risk due to his wealth and influence.
In Thursday’s hearing, Combs disputed a video allegedly showing him attacking his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in 2016, claiming it had been edited and did not accurately depict the events at the Los Angeles Hotel.
Prosecutors have used the video as evidence to support allegations of Combs trafficking Ventura and as an example of the danger he may pose to women if released. They claim he was involved in a “freak off,” where he reportedly forced women to engage in sex acts with male prostitutes for an audience.
Combs’ defense team countered that the video simply depicted a domestic dispute and was unrelated to any trafficking activities.
They offered to present a forensic video analyst to clarify the footage during arguments about Combs’ potential release.
Combs is also facing multiple lawsuits from women who accuse him of abuse and forcing them into sex acts against their will.
