Craig Melvin, a seasoned NBC News anchor, will replace Hoda Kotb as co-anchor of “Today” following Kotb’s departure, which she announced in September. Melvin’s new role was confirmed during the Thursday morning broadcast, with Kotb set to leave on January 10 after 26 years with the show. Melvin will co-anchor the 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. hours alongside Savannah Guthrie. Having been with “Today” as a news anchor since 2018 and co-hosting its third hour since 2019, Melvin stepped down from his daily MSNBC show in 2022 to focus on his role with “Today.”
NBC also revealed that it will not select a permanent replacement for Kotb’s co-anchor position during the 10 a.m. hour, which she had shared with Jenna Bush Hager. Instead, a rotating series of co-hosts will be used for the newly renamed “Today With Jenna and Friends.” As for Kotb, she expressed her gratitude for her time on the show and confirmed she would remain with NBC in an unspecified role. She noted, “Family is family and you all will always be a part of mine.”
