Labour Party lawmaker’s decision to wear Tinubu’s signature cap draws widespread attention and controversy.
Social media erupted following the emergence of images featuring Thaddeus Attah, the Labour Party representative for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State, donning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s distinctive cap.
Attah, who rose to prominence during the 2023 general elections, was elected largely due to the influence of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, who, despite finishing third, notably outperformed Tinubu in Lagos, a key political area for the latter.
On election day, Attah secured his position as a federal lawmaker, but recently stirred controversy by sharing a photo of himself in Tinubu’s cap, accompanied by a message about the commencement of good governance.
This prompted various reactions from Nigerians questioning his intentions, with some expressing skepticism about his loyalty to the Labour Party.
Comments on social media suggested that Attah’s actions might indicate a potential shift towards the All Progressives Congress (APC), although he has not confirmed any plans to defect.
When our reporter sought to contact the lawmaker, a woman who answered the call stated that Attah has no intention of leaving the Labour Party.
She emphasized that he remains fully committed to the party, asserting, “He is a citizen of Nigeria under Tinubu, and I don’t believe the Cap is exclusive to APC members.
He is not planning to decamp. He is one hundred percent in LP.” In July, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, a Senator from the Labour Party, switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with his defection letter being presented in the Senate by President Godswill Akpabio.
