Nigerian artist Chike, known for his soulful music and impressive milestones, including 50 million Spotify streams and 70 million YouTube views, is under fire for his alleged neglect of the late Mohbad’s family.
In a post shared by Dr. Kemi Olunloyo, Chike was accused of not reaching out to Mohbad’s family following the singer’s untimely death. She claimed that Mohbad, also known as Mr. Aloba, significantly contributed to Chike’s career but has yet to receive any condolence from the artist.
“Mohbad literally bumped your career up. Mr. Aloba told me that Chike has not called till today to condole with him,” Dr. Kemi wrote. She further labeled Chike as “one of the most useless greedy artists known to man,” adding that he lacks friends in the Nigerian music industry.
While some fans have defended Chike, noting that public displays of condolence are not always necessary, others believe artists owe more compassion to their peers’ families during times of grief.
Chike has yet to respond to the allegations.
What’s your take on this? Should artists show public solidarity during such moments, or is privacy a better approach?
