So, you want to know why the leadership of the UPU went to visit His Excellency Senator Ifeanyi Okowa recently. Okay.
1. We went there to appreciate him for ensuring that Urhobo nation produced the next Governor of Delta State after his tenure. If Senator Ifeanyi Okowa wanted to make an Ijaw or an Isoko man to take over the reins of government after him, heaven won’t fall, after all, the three senatorial districts of Delta State have produced governors in the persons of His Excellencies, Chief James Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. When His Excellency Chief James Ibori decided to make his cousin governor after his tenure, heaven didn’t fall. So, the UPU needed to appreciate Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for keeping his promise to the Urhobo people.
2. We also needed to appreciate His Excellency Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for providing good working environment for His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to execute his MORE agenda in Delta State and for maintaining a commendable harmonious working relationship with the governor. I hope you are aware of what is happening in Rivers State between Wike and Sim Fubara. We needed to appreciate him to continue with that wonderful relationship.
These are the only two reasons for making us to embark on that visit. The speech of the President-General of the UPU is recorded and is on the public space.
Why responding to the speech of the President-General of the UPU, His Excellency Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as a good and astute politician, availed himself of the opportunity to speak to the world. The UPU is not in a position to tell His Excellency Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on what to say or not to say whilst he was responding to the UPU speech.
For those persons complaining about the timing of the visit, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Senator Ifeanyi Okowa was recently invited by the EFCC for questioning and so what? The Constitution of the the Federal Republic of Nigeria presume him innocent for now and there is no amount of propaganda that can change the position of the law. After all, a past Governor of Delta State was convicted and sentenced to prison, served his prison sentence and he was welcomed home with loud celebrations by everyone including the UPU and he is still our national leader till date because of his charismatic leadership qualities and we are still celebrating him till date. Heaven nor go fall joor!
