Idris ‘Bobrisky’ Okuneye, a controversial Nigerian crossdresser, has sued the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly for N1.2 billion. He claims they violated his fundamental rights over allegations stemming from a leaked audio recording by social media influencer Martins ‘VDM’ Otse.
In the recording, Bobrisky was accused of paying N15 million to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges and allegedly serving a jail term in a private apartment. He also mentioned being approached by singer Falz and his father, Femi Falana, for an N10 million presidential pardon. Bobrisky denied the claims and threatened legal action against VDM, citing emotional and psychological trauma caused by the incident.
The National Assembly launched an investigation, summoning Bobrisky, VDM, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyode, and NCoS officials. However, Bobrisky did not appear, citing health issues. Following his failed appearance, he was arrested twice—first by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) at Seme border and later by the EFCC at Lagos Airport.
In a lawsuit filed on October 10, Bobrisky accused the National Assembly and EFCC of summoning him without verifying the authenticity of the leaked recording. He claimed the proceedings caused him public ridicule, threats, and psychological trauma. He is demanding N200 million from the EFCC for “psychotic trauma” and N1 billion from the National Assembly for violating his right to a fair hearing.
Bobrisky also alleged that the National Assembly denied him his right to legal representation, contravening both the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and Nigeria’s Constitution.
