Jamal Simmons, the former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, called for President Joe Biden to step down, allowing Harris to become the first female President of the United States.
Speaking on CNNās State of the Union, Simmons praised Bidenās tenure, saying, āJoe Bidenās been a phenomenal president; heās lived up to so many of the promises heās made. Thereās one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure.
āHe could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris President of the United States.
Itād turn tables on Trump, keep Kamala from presiding over January 6 and make it easier for the next woman to run,ā he said.
When host Dana Bash asked Simmons about Harrisā chances of being nominated to the Supreme Court, he reiterated his call for Harris as president.
āThis is something within Joe Bidenās control. If he did it, it would, again, fulfill his last promise and give Kamala Harris a chance to be the 47th President of the United States of America. It would disrupt all of Donald Trumpās paraphernalia, right? Heād have to rebrand everything. And make it easier for the next woman president not have to hold all that weight of being the first,ā Simmons said.
This suggestion comes in the wake of the recent U.S. presidential election, in which former President Donald Trump won against Vice President Harris, the Democratic candidate, by securing victories in twelve key swing states, including Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Trump is scheduled to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States in January 2025.
