The Action Peoples Party (APP) has made a significant breakthrough in Jigawa State, securing a councillorship seat in the recent local government elections. This victory follows the party’s remarkable performance in Rivers State last month, where it won 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions and 314 out of 317 councillorship seats.
Hon. Auwalu Muhammad Harbo, Chairman of the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission, confirmed the victory. The commission issued a certificate of return on October 6, 2024, declaring Usman Alhaji Ali of the APP as the duly elected councilor for the Buntusu ward in Gwiwa Local Government Area.
Reacting to the win, APP National Chairman Barrister Uchenna Nnadi expressed his gratitude to the people of Gwiwa for their support, promising that their elected councilor would provide effective and quality leadership. He also highlighted that the victory in Jigawa, coupled with their success in Rivers, demonstrates that the APP is establishing a strong presence in Nigerian politics.
Nnadi expressed confidence that the party would continue to perform well in future elections across the country. “This victory in Jigawa, along with our historic triumph in Rivers, shows that the Action Peoples Party is here to stay,” he said. “We are steadily moving forward, and I am optimistic that our elected officials will deliver on their promises and bring the dividends of democracy to the people.”
He concluded by urging all party members and stakeholders to remain united to strengthen the party’s position across all regions. “When we are united, we can be stronger together,” Nnadi added.
