Legislators are being cautioned against repeatedly endorsing Ganduje as APC chieftain raises alarm over partiality.
A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nanfwang Gunat, has issued a warning to legislators nationwide regarding the potential passage of a vote of confidence for the party’s beleaguered National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. Gunat emphasized that this caution applies to both current and former legislators at all levels, including state assemblies, the House of Representatives, and the Senate.
As a former member of the Support Groups Coordination for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, he underscored that endorsing Ganduje would betray the North Central region, which has been advocating for the chairmanship position following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, also from North Central.
In a discussion with journalists in Jos, Plateau State, Gunat revealed concerns about rumors suggesting that Ganduje intends to rally support from both former and current legislators to maintain the chairmanship in the North-West, where he hails from, and to secure their endorsement.
He asserted that the party had constitutionally designated the chairmanship for the North Central region, which has significantly contributed to the APC’s success, and criticized Ganduje for attempting to undermine this agreement.
Gunat also contested the credit attributed to Ganduje for the APC’s victories in the Edo and Ondo governorship elections, arguing that voters supported the party based on their trust in it, not due to Ganduje’s influence, as he failed to deliver his own state of Kano.
He urged President Bola Tinubu and party leaders to convene a National Executive Council meeting promptly to resolve the chairmanship issue to prevent further division within the party.
Gunat emphasized that organizing a meeting to tackle this crucial issue is essential for the party’s cohesion and success in the upcoming 2027 election, as the North Central region is currently experiencing feelings of marginalization and neglect.
