APC dares former Governor Godwin Obaseki to walk through the streets of Benin for N50M, questioning his popularity.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has announced a reward of N50 million for the former governor, Godwin Obaseki, if he can stroll through the streets of Benin City and receive a warm reception from the locals.
According to OBASANJONEWS, Prince Kassim Afegbua, a prominent party member and part of the Edo State Assets Verification Committee, issued this challenge during a press conference following the committee’s inauguration by Governor Monday Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin City.
Afegbua addressed various allegations and criticisms directed at the new administration, asserting that the people-centric initiatives implemented by Governor Okpebholo have garnered public support.
The purpose of the press briefing, as articulated by the chairman, is to address various insinuations circulating in the public domain.
It has been claimed that the newly established APC government, which has been in power for only 14 days, has discontinued the e-governance platform;
this assertion is both absurd and inaccurate, as what was referred to as e-governance is more accurately described as e-corruption.
In our attempts to access information previously presented by the former administration, we found it largely inaccessible.
Furthermore, allegations from the opposition regarding an invasion of their secretariat appear to be an attempt to malign us unjustly.
Our focus remains on revitalizing Edo State, which has suffered from the previous government’s neglect, rather than concerning ourselves with the opposition’s diminished status following their electoral defeat.
The current administration is committed to its policy agenda and will not be sidetracked by unfounded accusations.
Recently, the opposition criticized our initiation of an asset verification exercise, yet it is widely recognized that establishing a status report is a standard practice for any government at the outset of its term, not just in Edo State or Nigeria, but globally.
Given the previous administration’s lack of reliable data, it is our responsibility as the APC, in alignment with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to address these informational gaps as highlighted by the chairman of the Assets Verification Committee.
We wish to convey to the people of Edo that despite the brief time since the new government commenced its operations, the initiatives we have undertaken and the measures implemented have significantly resonated with the citizens.
If the opposition is genuinely committed, they should extend an invitation to former Governor Godwin Obaseki for a public engagement in Edo, for which we are prepared to offer N50 million. This would allow us to gauge the support of the Edo populace.
Afegbua claimed that the former governor has employed individuals throughout the state to undermine the APC and its administration.
Nevertheless, he emphasized that such actions will not deter the government and the party from focusing on their objectives and delivering meaningful projects to tackle the state’s pressing issues.
