Anambra State Police have apprehended a man caught with a gun concealed inside a bag of rice. The suspect, Enediong Bassey, a 25-year-old from Ikono LGA in Akwa Ibom State, was arrested on November 22, 2024, in Nkwelle-Ezunaka.
According to Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Bassey admitted to being a member of a local vigilante group and was attempting to flee with the firearm to join a criminal gang involved in armed robbery and other illegal activities. The police have transferred him to the Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, emphasized the need for profiling security operatives to improve safety in the state.
