ACF accuses President Tinubu’s economic reforms of increasing poverty levels in Nigeria. Learn more about their concerns.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged President Bola Tinubu to reassess his economic reforms to better address the challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly in the northern region.
Following a National Executive Council meeting in Kaduna, the ACF expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration’s economic policies, which they believe have exacerbated the hardships experienced by the average citizen.
The Forum highlighted the specific vulnerabilities of the northern populace, including food insecurity, inadequate access to education and skills training, and dependence on microeconomic activities for their livelihoods.
They stressed that while economic reforms are essential, they should not lead to increased poverty or hardship for those they aim to assist, as many rely on small-scale activities for survival.
The communiqué pointed out the severe food insecurity and lack of educational opportunities for the youth in the region, calling for immediate and impactful solutions.
It concluded that economic reforms must not impoverish the very individuals they are designed to benefit, as the people may not survive to enjoy any potential advantages.
Additionally, the group has previously announced its support for a Northern candidate in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
