The Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Michael Langley, visited Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, engaging with Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa to address ongoing security challenges in Nigeria and the broader West African region.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, confirmed the visit, noting that General Langley was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills. General Langley commended Nigeria’s proactive measures against insecurity and recognized its pivotal role in regional stability.
He also congratulated General Musa on his recent appointment as Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Defence Chiefs.
In response, General Musa expressed appreciation for AFRICOM’s support and reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to collaborating with neighboring nations to combat terrorism and organized crime, while also requesting increased U.S. cooperation in areas such as training, intelligence sharing, and access to essential defense resources.
