Gov. Yusuf Presents N549.16bn 2025 Budget to Kano Assembly
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has submitted the proposed 2025 budget to the state assembly, totaling N549.16 billion. This comes after a 77% performance of the 2024 budget.
In his presentation on Friday at the state assembly, Governor Yusuf highlighted that the capital expenditure component of the 2025 budget is set at N312.63 billion, while recurrent expenditure will amount to N236.53 billion. If approved, the capital-to-recurrent ratio for the 2025 budget will stand at 57:43%.
The governor noted that the bulk of the capital expenditure will be allocated to social and economic sectors, totaling N461.45 billion. The breakdown includes N168.35 billion (31%) for education, N90.6 billion (16.5%) for healthcare, N21.04 billion (3.83%) for agriculture, and N70.68 billion (12.87%) for infrastructure development.
Additional allocations include N3.88 billion (1.22%) for manufacturing, commerce, industry, and tourism; N15.52 billion (2.83%) for environment and sanitation; and N98.24 billion (17.57%) for governance institutions.
Governor Yusuf also reported that the 2024 budget, which stood at N437.3 billion, achieved a 77% performance, with recurrent revenue and expenditure meeting 65% of the targets. He credited the success to the government’s efforts in closing financial loopholes.
Acknowledging the challenges of 2024, particularly economic hardships, price hikes, and currency exchange issues, the governor expressed concern over the youth protests earlier in the year. He stressed the importance of responding to the needs of the youth and reaffirmed the Kano government’s commitment to launching various youth empowerment programs to prevent further unrest.
