The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) provides fresh information on the recent national grid disruption. Learn about the impact and ongoing efforts to restore power.”
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has provided an explanation for the recent disruption in the national power grid. In a statement released by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the disturbance, which occurred shortly after a nationwide blackout, was attributed to a sudden increase in frequency.
The statement indicated that the national grid experienced a disturbance around 11:29 AM due to a spike in frequency from 50.33Hz to 51.44Hz. Recovery efforts commenced immediately, with the Abuja Axis restored within a short timeframe.
Ongoing recovery is being hampered by issues at one of TCN’s substations, which was shut down to avert further complications.
TCN is also undertaking significant repairs on critical transmission lines and substations, including the 330kV line along the Shiroro–Mando axis and upgrades at the Jebba Transmission Substation.
Additionally, TCN is addressing weaknesses identified in a recent investigative report on previous grid failures, implementing both technical upgrades and strategic interventions.
However, TCN cautions that some instability may continue until all major repairs are finalized and appreciates the public’s understanding and patience during this period, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing the reliability of electricity supply in Nigeria.
