Stephen Abuwatseya, a ride-hailing driver, has publicly apologized to Alex Ikwechegh, the House of Representatives member for Aba North and South in Abia State, following a confrontation in Abuja related to a package delivery.
In light of the incident, which gained significant attention due to a viral video, Abuwatseya expressed his regret for instigating Ikwechegh’s anger and extended his apologies to the Nigerian public.
He urged for reconciliation, emphasizing the importance of unity among Nigerians regardless of religion, ethnicity, or region, and referenced the principle of forgiveness found in the Lord’s Prayer.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to his family and supporters for their unwavering support during this challenging time.
Reports indicate that Ikwechegh was granted bail of N500,000 after appearing before the Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja, where he faced charges related to the alleged assault on Abuwatseya. The court proceedings, overseen by His Worship, Abubakar Umar Sai’id, included allegations of abuse of office, assault, and threats, stemming from the incident captured on video.
