Governor Yusuf of Kano addresses speculation about a rift with political leader Kwankwaso, clarifying their relationship. Read his full statement.
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has categorically refuted claims of a rift with his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, asserting that their relationship remains intact despite recent controversies.
In a statement to journalists in Kano, Yusuf emphasized that his bond with Kwankwaso has endured for over forty years, countering rumors suggesting that Kwankwaso exerts undue influence over his administration, with allegations of a “third term by proxy” circulating within the Kwankwasiyya movement and the New Nigeria Peopleβs Party (NNPP).
Yusuf addressed the speculation, particularly comments from Aliyu Madakin-Gini, a former ally of Kwankwaso, who claimed tensions arose from issues related to a drugs contract and a scholarship program.
However, Yusuf firmly rejected these assertions, highlighting his independence and expressing gratitude towards Kwankwaso.
He remarked that the notion of a misunderstanding between them is unfounded, recalling their long-standing partnership and recent discussions that reaffirmed their mutual respect.
Yusuf concluded by stating that his leadership is guided by divine will rather than external influences.
