The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure the appointment of a substantive rector for the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State is based on merit.
NANS warned against external interference in the selection process, alleging that certain individuals, including a group posing as alumni, are attempting to disrupt the transparent and competitive process that recently shortlisted 18 qualified candidates.
The association urged the president to disregard baseless petitions and ensure that the appointment aligns with merit and the federal character principle. Additionally, NANS called for the revitalization of the institution and improvements in the South-East’s road and transportation infrastructure for students’ safety.
