Globacom welcomes a former MTN boss as its new CEO, signaling potential growth and innovation in Nigeria’s competitive telecom industry.
Globacom, a leading telecommunications provider in Nigeria, has appointed Ahmad Farroukh, an experienced figure in the telecom industry, as its new Chief Executive Officer.
This leadership transition is part of the company’s efforts to enhance corporate governance and operational efficiency, in line with the Nigerian Communications Commission’s recent focus on improving governance standards within the sector.
Farroukh, who has over twenty years of experience, began his career in 1995 as the CEO of Investcom Group in Lebanon, which later merged with MTN Group.
His notable positions include managing director of MTN Ghana, regional director for West Africa at Investcom, and CEO of MTN Nigeria from 2006 to 2010.
He also led MTN South Africa in 2014 and served as CEO of Mobily in Saudi Arabia until 2017, before becoming Group CEO at Smile Communications Nigeria Limited in 2019.
Farroukh holds a master’s degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the Lebanese American University and is a Certified Public Accountant from New York.
His extensive background in major telecom firms equips him to provide innovative leadership at Globacom, aiming to enhance the company’s growth and competitiveness in Nigeria’s telecom market.
The company stated that Farroukh’s appointment is timely, as it faces challenges related to its subscriber base, particularly following a recent regulatory audit by the NCC that revealed significant discrepancies, resulting in a drastic decline in subscribers from 62.19 million in March to 19.15 million in September, highlighting the urgent need for strategic reforms to regain confidence and foster growth in a competitive environment.
