-Two human rights organisations, the Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum and the International Human Rights Commission, criticized the EFCC for arresting former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion, calling it political persecution.
-Okowa was detained by the EFCC on Monday, accused of embezzling N1.3 trillion in Delta State funds, a claim which he denies.
-Joseph Kpokpogri, chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum, urged the EFCC to release Okowa on self-recognition and threatened protests at the EFCC’s Port Harcourt office if the commission cannot substantiate the charges.
-Kpokpogri praised Okowa’s cooperation with the EFCC, contrasting it with former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s defiance against EFCC’s arrest attempts.
-Kpokpogri argued that the alleged N1.3 trillion fraud is unrealistic, as it would imply no salaries, infrastructure, or services were provided during Okowa’s eight-year tenure, casting doubt on the EFCC’s accusations.OSIMHEN RETURNS TO TRAINING
-Victor Osimhen, Super Eagles striker, returned to training with Galatasaray on Monday after a brief absence due to discomfort from his last match.
-Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in the summer and has been impactful for the team this season.
-In seven appearances, Osimhen has formed a strong partnership with Dries Mertens and Mauro Icardi, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
-After scoring the winning goal against Besiktas, Osimhen missed training for three days as Galatasaray took precautions, given his previous injury history.
-Osimhen’s next match is a Europa League fixture against Tottenham on Thursday, where he will be aiming to score his first goal in the competition this season.
