Two men suspected of robbing a victim of his mobile phone in Minna have been arrested and are currently in police custody in Niger State. The suspects were apprehended by officers from the Kpakungu Police Division on October 31, 2024, following a report from the victim.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrest was made after police received credible intelligence about the crime. The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Azifi Lawal (aka Maka) and Abubakar Saidu (aka Yaro), both from Minna, were linked to the robbery.
Abiodun explained that the victim had boarded a tricycle from the Gidan-Kwano area to Dama. During the ride, two other passengers, the suspects, conspired to attack and rob him of his phone before fleeing into nearby bushes.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to the robbery and revealed involvement in similar crimes. They also named one Mubarak, a member of their gang from the Dutsen-Kura area, as a co-conspirator. Investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen phones and apprehend the remaining suspect.
