Nigerian Senate: Security Investments Must Meet Growing Challenges
The Nigerian Senate emphasizes that investing in security and armed forces is a top priority to tackle insecurity, stating no amount is excessive.
On Monday, the Senate Committee on Defence stated that given the ongoing security challenges in certain areas, no investment in Nigeria’s Armed Forces and security would be too costly for the nation.
The committee’s Chairman, Senator Ahmad Lawal, revealed this information while speaking to journalists following an oversight visit to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna State.
The lawmaker expressed the view that currently, everything in the country centers around security.
He assured that the upper legislative chamber would maintain its focus on ensuring the nation’s security and armed forces receive the attention they rightfully deserve.
“When we’ve secured our environment, we can then easily and comfortably provide other things,” he stated.
Lawal mentioned that the Senate regards the AFCSC as one of the most crucial institutions offering training and education for the country’s military.
“This applies to officers leading various military operations at the tactical, operational, and mid-level,” he said.
