Lagos traffic authority LASTMA warns drivers about reckless behavior on the road, stressing the importance of safety for all road users.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the Managing Director of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), praised the authority’s officers for their quick response in saving lives during accidents.
In a statement on Monday in Lagos, Bakare-Oki mentioned that the officers’ quick response saved lives in two separate recent single-vehicle accidents.
The statement was signed by Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA.
He stated that the accidents occurred in the Obanikoro and Chevron areas of Lagos State.
Bakare-Oki reported that the initial accident happened at Obanikoro on Ikorodu Road, close to Aret Adams House and Savoil. It involved a commercial Suzuki mini-bus with the registration number KTU 527 XN.
He stated, “The vehicle overturned, trapping the driver, a conductor, and a female passengerāeach of whom sustained significant injuries.”
He mentioned that LASTMA officers responded with impressive promptness, organizing a thorough rescue operation.
He mentioned that the bus driver, who suffered severe fractures, was quickly taken to the National Orthopedic Hospital in Igbobi for urgent care.
At the same time, the injured conductor received prompt medical attention provided by Lagos State Ambulance Services.
“The female passenger, who was also injured, was diligently turned over by LASTMA officers to her family members shortly after they arrived at the scene,” he stated.
Bakare-Oki mentioned that the second accident took place near the Chevron vicinity on the Lekki-Ajah Expressway.
He stated that a speeding Toyota Camry, with the registration number KSF 913 JK, lost control and veered into a deep gutter.
“Thanks to LASTMA’s swift response, additional casualties were prevented and an injured passerby received immediate attention. The vehicle was also safely removed and secured under the watchful eye of a police officer,” he said.
He stated that LASTMA officers undergo rigorous training to respond to emergency situations with precision.
He stated that the officers’ prompt actions during these incidents demonstrated LASTMA’s dedication to protecting lives and ensuring the safety of all road users in Lagos.
