Abia State celebrates the swearing-in of newly-elected local government chairmen by Governor Otti. Learn about the new leadership and their priorities for the community.
On Monday, Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, officially inaugurated the 17 local government chairmen who were elected on Saturday.
OBASANJONEWS reports that the State’s Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, awarded Certificates of Return to the newly elected Mayors of all 17 Local Government Areas on Sunday. Among them, 15 mayors are from the ZLP and two represent the YPP.
The mayors are Timothy Iheke representing Aba North (ZLP), Anyanwu Obilor for Aba South (ZLP), Okereke Ezearo from Arochukwu (ZLP), Uwabunkeonye Bassey of Bende (ZLP), Dr. Anthony Nwaubani serving Ikwuano (ZLP), Innocent Uruakpa in Isialangwa North (ZLP), Nnadozie Nwaogwugwu appointed to Isialangwa South (ZLP), and Chinedu Ekeke for Isukwuato (ZIP).
The list includes Maxwell Nwadike representing Obingwa (ZLP), Eleanya Oju-Kalu for Ohafia (ZLP), Chidi Christian Agu from Osisioma (YPP), Ihenacho Chiemela Nwagbara in Ugwunagbo (YPP), Chibunna Akara for Ukwa East (ZLP), Pastor Dike Nwankwo serving Ukwa West (ZLP), Smart Ihuoma from Umuahia North(ZLP ), Chinwendu Enwereuzo in Umuahia South, and Sunday Afuruike advocating Umunneochi under the Zoning Local Party system.
At the swearing-in ceremony, Otti encouraged them to prioritize an ‘Abia first’ mindset while leading their Local Government Areas and to persist in efforts towards advancing Abia’s socio-economic transformation from within their respective regions.

Prioritizing access to water, essential health and education services, proper upkeep of Truck C roads, and prompt responses to security threats in local communities should be at the top of your list.
He stated, “Within the next six months, your leadership should result in visible and measurable improvements in living conditions for all, with a particular focus on women, youth, and vulnerable groups across different communities.”
