Ajah Market experiences a catastrophic fire, resulting in the destruction of goods valued in the millions, affecting numerous vendors.
A catastrophic fire erupted on Sunday evening at Ajah Market, near Alesh Bus Stop in Lekki, Lagos, resulting in widespread destruction to shops and goods valued at millions of naira.
The fire, igniting around 9 p.m., rapidly spread through several stores filled with highly flammable materials, escalating the devastation.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that both LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services responded swiftly to control the fire.
Thankfully, there were no casualties or injuries reported because the market was closed for the day and traders were not present.
Although the cause of the fire is still being investigated, authorities are evaluating the scope of the damages.
Oke-Osanyintolu reported that the LASEMA Response Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully stopped the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. He added that efforts are still underway to fully extinguish the blaze and save any remaining valuables.
