APC is determined to gain control in Bauchi come 2027, Senator Buba asserts, marking a clear intention for change in the state.”
Senator Umar Buba of Bauchi South has expressed his confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take control from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State by 2027.
Buba, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, announced this at the conclusion of the 2024 critical stakeholders meeting in Bauchi.
“The key stakeholders meeting is aimed at fostering peace, unity, and progress within the party,” he stated.
You can see me, along with our House of Representatives members and honorable ministers—we all attended this meeting. We discussed the unity, peace, and justice of the party in the state. I am impressed with the turnout.
This clearly indicates that the party is prepared and eager to assume control of Bauchi in 2027.
The meeting attendees included Senator Buba; the Ministers of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate; Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; former Governor Isa Yuguda; members of the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly. Additionally present were former state APC party chairmen and a representative for Abubakar Sadique, who was busy with a national assignment at that time.
In a statement released to journalists following the meeting on Saturday, the state’s APC unanimously pledged its support for President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda and backed the two ministers from their state.
The communiquĂ©, signed by the state Chairman Muhammad Hassan, also resolved to establish a disciplinary mechanism within the party to address members’ misconduct at all levels impartially.
“The party committed to guaranteeing justice, equity, and fairness for everyone in upcoming congresses, primaries, and general elections,” it stated.
“We will steadfastly support all APC candidates in upcoming elections.”
It is worth remembering that the APC was defeated by the PDP in 2019.
The candidate, who was then the governor, Barrister Mohammed Abubakar, unexpectedly lost to Bala Mohammed of the PDP by a narrow margin.
The party made an unsuccessful attempt to regain power in 2023, suffering another defeat.
In the 2023 governorship election, Senator Mohammed emerged victorious over APC’s Air Marshal Abubakar Saddique, a former Chief of Air Staff, in a closely fought and intensely competitive race.
After consecutive defeats, the party entered a period of dormancy but seems to have made a comeback, judging by the turnout at the recently concluded 2024 critical stakeholders meeting.
Senator Buba embodies the renewed optimism that the party is fostering, grounded in peace, unity, and progress—values that were previously absent. He appears prepared and determined to tackle the challenges of campaigning for the 2027 elections.
