Kalu Aja Claims Imported Fuel Prices High Without Nigerian Crude Theft
Kalu Aja’s controversial statement reveals that fuel prices stay steep without illegal crude oil from Nigeria, sparking discussions on import costs and policy issues.
Kalu Aja, a financial analyst and educator, has rejected the assertion made by certain oil marketers that importing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from abroad is more cost-effective than obtaining it from a local refinery in Nigeria.
Aja suggested that the allegation might be true if individuals stole crude oil from Nigeria and are now importing PMS back into the country to disguise their theft.
Aja posted on X, “Let me reiterate: It’s impossible to import PMS back into Nigeria at a lower price than what it would cost for a local refinery using Nigerian crude oil. The only way this happens is if the crude was stolen from Nigeria, exported illegally, and then you’re bringing PMS back as part of laundering that theft.”
This statement follows a denial from Dangote Refinery on Saturday, where they labeled as false the allegation that it is selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at prices ranging between N1,015 and N1,028 per litre.
According to OBASANJONEWS, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) stated that as of last week, fuel prices from Dangote Refinery were higher compared to other locations.
On Friday, while responding to questions on Arise Television’s Morning Show program, Yakubu Suleiman, the National Assistant Secretary of IPMAN, made these claims.
