The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has launched the disbursement of N70 million to 700 youths selected from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking at the launch of the youth empowerment programme at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, the governor stated that each beneficiary would receive a grant of N100,000.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Umar Abubakar-Tafida, said that the beneficiaries were expected to use the grant to establish businesses, enabling them to become self-sufficient and eventually employers of labour.
He explained that the programme was designed to ensure both males and females benefit, giving all genders a sense of inclusion.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grant to transform their lives and assist others in the future.
In his speech, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nura Bala-Fingila, commended Governor Nasir Idris for initiating a programme that aims to positively impact the lives of youths across the state.
Describing the programme as a “game changer,” the commissioner also encouraged beneficiaries to leverage the scheme to improve their livelihoods.
He stressed the importance of youths and the entire population of Kebbi State rallying around the governor by supporting all policies and programmes of the current administration.
