The Enugu State police have advised the public to ignore a misleading and malicious audio recording circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu. The audio claims to outline ānew communication rules for WhatsApp chats and calls.ā
In a statement released on Friday by the Commandās Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police clarified that this audio does not reflect any official communication from the command. They are currently investigating and seeking to identify social media influencers responsible for disseminating this misleading content.
āIt is important to emphasize that WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is a reputable international organization that would not rely on third-party sources to announce changes to its services,ā Ndukwe noted.
He also mentioned that the Commissioner has initiated a comprehensive intelligence-led investigation aimed at identifying and prosecuting those behind the creation and distribution of the false audio. The CP expressed concern over the misuse of his image in promoting this misinformation.
