The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has once again called on the Federal Government to urgently address the ongoing security challenges in the state.
The association highlighted that these persistent issues have severely affected the already fragile health sector.
During a press conference in Gusau, Vice Chairman Dr. Mohammed Murtala appealed to the Zamfara State Government to increase funding for healthcare and improve the working conditions for health workers.
He emphasized that the NMA is not only concerned about the cholera and diphtheria outbreaks but is also committed to collaborating with the state government to tackle these diseases and enhance health outcomes. “This is why we are focusing on the cholera and diphtheria outbreaks at our 2024 Scientific Conference, as part of our Physician Week activities,” he stated.
The NMA praised the governor for his efforts in enhancing health infrastructure, including the upgrades to general hospitals and the remodeling of Ahmad Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, the only tertiary hospital in the state.
The association urged the Zamfara State Government to bolster its response to the diphtheria and cholera outbreaks and to work closely with various health unions in the state.
