Joe El: My Resemblance to 2Baba Has Been a Double-Edged Sword in My Career
Joe El candidly addresses the impact of looking like 2Baba on his music career, exploring the benefits and drawbacks of this striking similarity.
Singer Joe El Amadi has discussed the drawbacks of his strong resemblance to fellow musician 2Baba.
During his appearance on the ‘Hoha’ podcast, Joe El mentioned that being compared to 2Baba due to their resemblance has had a negative impact on his career.
He mentioned that a few music executives and media personalities had refused him access to their platforms solely because he shares a resemblance with 2Baba.
He claimed, “Being compared to 2Baba nearly broke me. Certain presenters from Cool FM and Sound City, along with an event planner for Festac Carnival 2013, denied me access to their platforms just because I resemble 2Baba.”
The Sound City presenter once confronted me at Club Rumours, bragging that he instructed the presenters at his station not to play my songs because I was imitating 2Face.
The event planner for Festac Carnival refused to let me perform, claiming I resemble their King 2Face. A similar situation occurred during an interview at Cool FM when the presenter decided he couldn’t interview someone who mimics 2Face.
I expressed my concerns to both my mom and Baba Keke, the head of my record label. They advised me to stay calm. Occasionally, when I attempt to show respect or admiration for 2Face in public encounters, some members of his team obstruct me.
He mentioned that people began to accept him after his collaboration with 2Baba on the song “Hold On” in 2015.
Joe El explained his departure from Kennis Music after 12 years by simply stating, “The contract was over.”
