A new registrar has been appointed for the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) by the Minister. Discover the background of the new appointee and the potential impact on Nigeria’s freight forwarding industry.
Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, has sanctioned the appointment of Mr. Kingsley Igwe as the Registrar for the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
Mr. Ismail Omipidan, the minister’s spokesperson, stated this in a communication to journalists on Thursday in Lagos.
Oyetola stated that the appointment was a step towards enhancing CRFFN’s efficiency and management.
He stated that Igwe, who also served as the National Secretary for the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), succeeded Mrs. Chinyere Uronta in her role as acting Registrar.
The appointment was announced through a letter endorsed by Mr. Babatunde Sule, the Director of Maritime Services, on behalf of the Minister.
Oyetola stated that his appointment was made in line with the relevant provisions of the CRFFN Act 2007 for an initial period of four years.
He stated that Igwe, hailing from Imo State, holds a Master’s degree in Transportation and is an active member of the CRFFN.
The Minister announced that the appointment would take effect immediately.
According to Peoplesmind, in August 2024, Igwe stood out as the top-performing participant at a CRFFN training session overseen by the Minister in Lagos.
It should be noted that the Council has been entangled in a crisis of confidence and insolvency, resulting in its failure to pay salaries since January 2024.
Nonetheless, Oyetola has intervened to organize a bailout loan ensuring salary payments until August.
