As a follow-up to the successful launch of the 2,000 CNG-powered tricycle last Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, the Ministry of Youth Development and the Presidential CNG Initiative, Monday, launched a dedicated portal to give opportunity for greater participation of youth from across the country.
The Youth Portal, according to Comrade Ayodele Olawande, Minister of State for Youth Development, was specifically designed to create opportunities for a greater number of youth to participate in the program, and also to ensure a swift and easy distribution of the CNG-powered tricycles to informal youth in the transportation sector.
Speaking at the launch of the distribution portal, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Youth Development, Mr. Olusanya Olubunmi appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his love and attention towards the youth ministry. He also noted that the CNG initiative is yet another project that will help reduce the cost of transportation for both the young and old.
In the same vein, the Head of Commercial, PCNGi, Mr. Tosin Coker emphasized that the Presidential CNG Initiative, a component of the palliative intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, was intended to provide succor to the masses, especially the youth who currently work in sustaining the future of Nigeria’s transportation system. He also noted that the initiative will continue to support the Ministry of Youth Development, as well as other MDAs, to ensure the success of the initiative.
On his part, the President of National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NACTOMORAS), Alh. Muh’d Sani Hassan assured the Minister and the PCNGi of the support of the association, stating that the masses will start seeing the effect of the initiative as soon as the cost of transportation begins to reduce across the FCT and in other States of the federation.
Hassan also showered praises on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for bridging the gap between commercial road workers and the government. He stated that the initiative will not only ensure good relationship between transporters and the government but also motivate and encourage the former to do more to ensure a better, safer, and cheaper transportation system.
The Minister of State for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, in his remarks, appreciated all parties for the successful commencement of the distribution of 2,000 tricycles for informal youths in the transportation sector.
The Minister noted that the launch of the distribution portal (www.youthcng.ng) is essential to bring transparency around the distribution process of the tricycle and also to have a good database of beneficiaries across the country.
“Through the portal, youth anywhere from across Nigeria can sign up to be merged with aggregators or owners who work directly with the Pi-CNG program; while beginning the process of becoming owners themselves.
“I, therefore, use this opportunity to call on all youth who work within the commercial transportation sector, or those who have interest in joining the sector to enlist for the benefits provided through the Presidential Initiative on CNG,” Olawande said.
The Minister concluded that the youth portal was in fulfillment of the aspiration and desire of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for equal access to all government Programmes and initiatives, ensuring that all Nigerians, either poor or rich, have the same chances of benefitting from government interventions.
