The Nigerian Army has retired five additional generals, marking another major shift within the country’s defense ranks.
On Friday, the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC) held a pull-out ceremony for five retired major generals at its headquarters located in Abalti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos.
At the event, the departing officers reminisced about their military journeys, discussing both the challenges and triumphs they experienced throughout their careers.
Maj.-Gen. Omotomilola Akintade, acting as the Reviewing Officer, addressed on behalf of the other retired generals, recognizing that their journeys were characterized by considerable challenges, displays of resilience, and times of both conflict and tranquility.
However, Akintade mentioned that “these experiences, which define our noble profession, were not anticipated during training at the Nigerian Defence Academy.”
He added that it was an honor for him to speak on behalf of the other four retired generals brought out for this unique and memorable occasion.
Akintade stated that it signified the official retirement from active duty in the Nigerian Army and, more broadly, within the Armed Forces.
He mentioned that they were extremely pleased to be honored with a valedictory parade as they bid farewell to their careers in the military.
Approximately 34 years ago, I fondly recall arriving at this exact location as a young, vibrant, and enthusiastic officer after graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
I was proud and honored to be assigned to the NAOC. I am confident in saying that each of us departing today has greatly benefited from this corps, which has guided our growth from novices into true professionals and outstanding leaders.
He expressed their commitment to maintain the Ordnance Corps principle of “One Big Family.”
He mentioned that reaching the peak of their profession required perseverance, support, resolve, divine grace, and prayers.
Today is truly a remarkable day that will stay in our hearts for a long time. It’s filled with deep emotions, nostalgic memories, genuine gratitude, boundless joy, and above all else, an unwavering sense of contentment.
We are stepping down from service at a pivotal time when our beloved country faces numerous challenges, and the Nigerian Armed Forces play an essential role in addressing these issues by being deployed for internal security duties.
He urged all serving personnel to remain loyal, dedicated, and highly professional in carrying out their duties.
I strongly advise you to refrain from any actions that could tarnish the reputation of the Ordinance Corps and, by extension, the Nigerian Army.
Allow me to remind you of the Oath of Allegiance we all pledged upon our commission: to remain loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and safeguard its territorial integrity against external threats.
In this context, you must consistently show complete dedication to your duty towards the nation without any bias or engagement in partisan politics.
“As my colleagues and I say goodbye today, I want to express our gratitude to the Nigerian Army for providing us with the opportunity to serve our country in various capacities both domestically and internationally,” he stated.
He expressed his deep appreciation for the current Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, and all previous Chiefs of Army Staff for their foresight and dedicated efforts in developing a dynamic Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps capable of supporting the Nigerian Army both during peace and wartime.
I am sure that the corps will keep providing valuable support to the Nigerian Army.
