Today, 7th of October 2024, Honourable (Dr.) Adeyemi Olayemi, Special Adviser on Environment, was on a program at Orange FM 94.5 Akure.
During the program, Honourable Olayemi re-informed the good people of Ondo State about the activities of Ondo State government under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in the environment sector as the Special Adviser to the Governor and also doubles as the Chairman of Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency (OSEPA).
Honourable Adeyemi highlighted the clearing of waterways and canals around Fagun-CaptainCook to Ita Ila axis of Ondo town, whereby the clearing of the canal has been ongoing since two weeks with the usage of Swamp-Buggy amphibian machine, which is one of the means of protecting the environment without the expectation of the obnoxious flooding that occurred in the last two days.
Few months ago, Ondo State government gave an approval to utilize the state’s Swamp-Buggy amphibian machine to clear some areas in the state, especially some parts of Akure metropolis, which work has been ongoing for more than three months.
These activities aim to ensure a flood-free state despite some areas being prone to flooding.
Furthermore, Honourable Adeyemi emphasized the Corporate Social Responsibilities (CRS) of media houses in the state to:
• Make day-to-day announcements promoting environmental cleanliness
• Inform the general public about the environmental task force statewide.
The environmental task force, established by the Ondo State government, is authorized to arrest and immediately prosecute individuals who neglect their responsibility to keep the state clean, with court proceedings taking place at the mobile court in Oda road, Akure. This initiative is part of the state’s efforts to maintain a clean and livable environment, and the task force is empowered to take swift action against anyone that violate environmental regulations.
Honourable Adeyemi reiterated the recent inauguration of the Waste Management Board, which will ensure a clean and livable environment, and also stated the obligations of house owners regarding:
• Monthly waste collection payments
• Waste-to-wealth initiative established by the state government.
Honourable (Dr.) Adeyemi appealed to the good people of Ondo State to prioritize keeping their environment clean, safe, and greener for a healthy state.
