Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a significant increase in the minimum wage for state workers, raising it to ₦85,000. This development comes as part of the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of public servants in the state.
The decision was finalized after a crucial meeting between Governor Fubara and representatives of organized labor unions, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the economic realities facing workers, especially in light of the rising cost of living. The approval of the new wage was described as a step towards ensuring that the state’s workforce is better equipped to meet their financial needs and maintain a decent standard of living.
The new wage structure will officially take effect from November 2024.
