The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo State Axis, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua (JOSH), has expressed deep appreciation to all stakeholders, senators, and Nigerian students for their active participation in the 2024 NANS South-West Zone-D Convention, which took place from Tuesday, 15th October to Friday, 18th October 2024 at The International Event Centre (DOME), Igbatoro Road, Akure, Ondo State.
In his statement, Comrade JOSH lauded the smooth conduct of the event and thanked the various dignitaries who contributed to the convention’s success. He specifically acknowledged the Senior Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Students’ Engagement, Hon. Comrade Sunday Asefon, as well as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Students’ Affairs, Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu (KSO), for their invaluable presence and support throughout the convention.
Comrade JOSH also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Lady Comrade Modupe Adetiba, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ekiti State on Students’ Affairs, and Hon. Odebunmi Idowu, a distinguished member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, both of whom were in attendance to show solidarity with the Nigerian student movement. Their participation, along with that of other dignitaries, underscored the importance of the event and further strengthened the relationship between students and government officials.
The Ondo State JCC Chairman noted that the convention was one of the most successful and peaceful Zone-D conventions in recent history. He commended the efforts of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC), whose dedication and commitment were pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of the event. He also acknowledged the Ondo State government for providing a conducive environment and security measures that guaranteed the safety of all participants.
Comrade JOSH took the opportunity to thank the students from across the South-West zone for adhering to the laid-down rules and maintaining peace throughout the electoral process. He appreciated the spirit of unity and comradeship exhibited by the attendees, emphasizing that such cooperation is crucial for the progress of Nigerian students.
Comrade JOSH extended his warm congratulations to the newly elected leaders of NANS South-West Zone-D, particularly the Coordinator-Elect, Comrade Taiwo, and the Vice Coordinator-Elect, Comrade ARAB. He praised them for earning the trust and confidence of their peers, urging them to lead with integrity and dedication to the welfare of Nigerian students.
āI congratulate Comrade Taiwo and Comrade ARAB on their elections as Coordinator and Vice Coordinator of NANS South-West Zone-D,ā Comrade JOSH said. āI urge you to lead by example, to listen to the voices of the students who have entrusted you with these positions, and to be their representatives with the utmost commitment and responsibility.ā
In his address, Comrade JOSH reminded the newly elected leaders that leadership is about service and encouraged them to remain accessible to the students they represent. He stressed the need for inclusivity and effective communication, ensuring that the concerns and aspirations of Nigerian students are always at the forefront of their leadership agenda.
āLeadership is about service, and I urge you both to remain connected to the students, to be their ears and their voices,ā he added. āYour success will be measured not just by your accomplishments, but by your ability to represent their interests with honesty and dedication.ā
In addition to acknowledging the contributions of stakeholders and students, Comrade JOSH expressed his profound appreciation to the security agencies that were present at the convention for their dedication to maintaining peace and security throughout the event. He specifically thanked the Nigeria Police Force, using the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, as a point of contact, for their proactive measures and presence at the convention venue. Comrade JOSH also extended his gratitude to the Department of State Security Services (DSS), through the Director of DSS, Ondo State Command, for their invaluable support in ensuring that the event proceeded without any security breaches.
Furthermore, Comrade JOSH commended the tireless efforts of the Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Anti-Cultist Squad, alongside other security agencies, for their vigilance and commitment to protecting the participants. Their collective efforts contributed significantly to the success of the convention and ensured the safety of all attendees.
He emphasized that the peaceful atmosphere was a result of their professionalism and dedication, which greatly contributed to the smooth conduct of the event. Comrade JOSH expressed his gratitude once again to all security agencies for their steadfast commitment to ensuring a secure and successful convention.
In conclusion, Comrade JOSH once again expressed his appreciation to all stakeholders, senators, and Nigerian students for their contributions to a successful convention. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that NANS continues to promote the welfare and interests of all Nigerian students and expressed hope that the newly elected leaders will uphold the values of NANS and continue to advance the cause of students across the South-West.
Comrade JOSH thanked the Ondo State government, the stakeholders, and the Convention Planning Committee for their tireless efforts in making the convention a benchmark for future NANS Zone-D events, and congratulated all candidates for their participation, encouraging those who did not win to accept the outcome with maturity and the spirit of comradeship.
