Ahead of the Ondo State gubernatorial election, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has stationed a Mobile Airfield Defence Team (MADT) at Akure Airport to strengthen security and address potential threats in the vicinity.
Wing Commander Victor Ajeye, Military Airport Commandant at Akure Airport, disclosed this development during an exclusive interview with The Hope in Akure.
The Commander described the deployment as a proactive measure, prompted by credible intelligence indicating heightened security risks to airports across the country.
According to Ajeye, “The Nigerian Air Force has deployed a specially trained MADT unit at Akure Airport, outfitted with weapons, communication systems, and advanced security technology to counter any possible threats within our jurisdiction.
This deployment comes amid national security concerns, especially with the approaching election and reports of potential protests across the country.
“Our objective is to reinforce airport security against any unscrupulous individuals who might seek to disturb the peace during this crucial period,” Ajeye asserted.
Additional security steps include thorough screening of airport personnel, setting up barricades, strict access control, and enhanced mobile and stationary patrols.
The Commandant also highlighted the readiness of rapid response teams to tackle incidents swiftly, with security preparations expected to be completed shortly.
The MADT deployment reaffirms the NAF’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and ensuring the integrity of air operations during the upcoming election season.
