-The World Bank has partnered with DO Take Action to launch an initiative empowering women entrepreneurs in Nigeria, officially unveiled on July 16, 2024, in Abuja.
-The Scaling Women’s Economic Empowerment Through Affirmative Procurement Reforms (SWEEP) program addresses barriers women-owned businesses face in accessing public procurement opportunities.
-Women own 40% of businesses in Nigeria but are underrepresented in public procurement, which constitutes 10-25% of Nigeria’s GDP and nearly 50% of government expenditure in sub-Saharan Africa.
-SWEEP aims to enhance the capacity of women-led businesses through targeted training in business skills, financial management, and procurement processes, benefiting over 600 businesses across three cohorts.
-The program will offer a hybrid learning experience, with both in-person and online instruction starting on November 1, 2024, encouraging women entrepreneurs in Abuja to register for participation.
