Five persons were found dead on Saturday, under suspicious circumstances in a single room in Uzairue, a community in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The victims included two brothers and a woman, alongside two other friends, sparking immediate alarm in the local community.
Family members reportedly discovered the bodies after growing concerned when the group failed to emerge from their room. Initial reports suggest potential cause as food poisoning.
Though cause of the d*ath still remains uncertain, it was being said that a lady, who was trying to get back at one of the boys for ending their relationship, allegedly gave him a plate of poison-laced fish pepper soup.
The Ex-Boyfriend, unfortunately, ate the meal with four of his friends, their lifeless bodies was later discovered inside the room.
Local authorities, including the Auchi Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from Jattu Police Station, have emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation before reaching any conclusions.
“The command is aware,” said SP Moses Yamu, spokesperson for the State Police Command, “but investigation to unravel the cause of death is ongoing.”
