Residents of Bayelsa State are increasingly worried as heavy rains lead to flooding in several communities, including Amassoma, Biseni, Anibeze, and Akenpai. While water levels are currently below those seen during the severe flooding of 2022, the situation remains critical. The Flood and Erosion Control Directorate has reassured residents that water levels should begin to recede in a few days, aided by clearing water channels to improve drainage.
Local farmer Joshua Odoko reported that floodwaters have forced him to harvest his cassava early to prevent losses. Concerns are mounting among farmers who fear losing crops as water levels continue to rise. Residents have resorted to constructing makeshift bridges to navigate flooded areas, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
