A dispatch rider, Monday Osazuwa, has presented additional evidence in a Lagos High Court in Ikeja. He claimed that the former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, instructed him not to maintain any records of the money he purportedly collected on Emefiele’s behalf.
Osazuwa, the first prosecution witness in Emefiele’s trial, returned to the witness stand on Monday following Justice Rahman Oshodi’s approval of an application for his recall.
OBASANJONEWS reports that Emefiele is on trial for allegedly abusing his office and engaging in money laundering, involving amounts of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.
At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, Osazuwa was cross-examined by Emefiele’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN. He testified that Emefiele directly spoke to him several times and instructed him not to document any transactions related to money he received or delivered.
Osazuwa also admitted that he did not possess any documentation from either Emefiele or his co-accused, Henry Omoile, confirming the receipt of those funds.
The witness also acknowledged that there were no other witnesses present when he gave the money to Emefiele.
Prior to her testimony, the fifth prosecution witness, Mrs. Ifeoma Ogbonnaya, a business relationship manager at Zenith Bank Plc, concluded by reaffirming that she had communicated with Mrs. Margaret Emefiele regarding the accounts of three companies.
She also confirmed that, in all the documents accessible to her as a representative of Zenith Bank, there was no evidence linking Emefiele to the transactions or any dealings with Henry Omoile, the second defendant.
Justice Oshodi postponed the trial continuation to Wednesday, October 30th.
